Good points. Brian sanded much of this by hand (as shown here). I agree about the goggles, but he did use gloves most of the time. We also kept the place well ventilated. I would say we're pretty careful with earplugs (other jobs) and so forth. But I guess the point is you can always do better when it comes to safety.

If you are tempted to show off how tough you are by not wearing some basic protective gear - don't. Lead paint is a given - and especially if you torch it off you will be breathing a toxic mess.

In fact, look closely at the working styles of a lot of long term professional skilled trades and you will see an healthy appreciation for hearing protectors, kneepads, gloves and other techniques that will pay off.

Ask David about Mr Fritz and how much time he would spend thinking before he stood up and started lifting. There's much to be learned there.
